Good morning! Where did the weekend go? It feels like I was just logging out of my computer on Friday evening before heading home. Seriously! Last week seemed like a really long work week and I was so ready to relax by the end of it. Besides my long work days, last week was a pretty strong week in terms of my workouts. I did have a few days that I just didn’t feel like doing anything. There were other days when I felt like I could have (and should have done more) but didn’t. By the end of the week, my strength workouts suffered a little bit but I knocked out all of my planned runs. I even ended up going to two Orange Theory Fitness classes on back-to-back days.
Monday – Strength Training + Easy Run
- Strength Training – Back (LiveFit Trainer Day 36, 36 minutes)
- 2.02 miles, 27:00 minutes, 13:19 min/mile avg. pace, 146 BPM HR
After work on Monday, I headed to the gym to start my week off on the right note. I have found that I can’t really skip Monday’s at the gym or the rest of my week will suffer. My workout started with some stretching to loosen up the muscles before heading to the weight room. My strength workout was focused on my back muscles. I feel like that area is getting stronger except when I am supposed to be doing pull ups. I have never been able to do a pull up and feel supremely weak when I have to use the assisted pull up machine at the gym. Once I was done lifting weights, I jumped on the treadmill for an easy 2 mile run.
Tuesday – Rest
Tuesday was one of those days at the office when I just really wished I had stayed in bed. I felt like I was running around all day long and didn’t have a chance to catch my breath or get any real work down. By the time I left, I was exhausted and didn’t have the energy to go to the gym.
Wednesday – Orange Theory Fitness Class
- Orange Theory Fitness Class – Endurance, 56 minutes
- Intervals – 2.15 miles, 27:27 minutes, 12:45 min/mile avg. pace
Despite another late night at the office, I was bound and determined to do some sort of workout on Wednesday evening. I decided that I was going to go to the late OTF class even though my coworker wasn’t able to go. Quite honestly, I considered not going either but I signed up for the class and went. The Wednesday night class was an endurance focused class so there were a lot of long intervals on the treadmill and high rep counts in the weight room. Plus, we did almost 2000 meters on the rowing machine. I was warn out and totally out of breath by the end of class.
Thursday – Orange Theory Fitness Class
- Orange Theory Fitness Class – Strength, 56 minutes
- Intervals – 2.05 miles, 25:30 minutes, 12:23 min/mile avg. pace
When she realized that she couldn’t go to the Wednesday night class, my coworker asked if we could go to the Thursday night class and I agreed. This was my first time attempting to go to two OTF classes on back-to-back nights but I knew that I could handle it. The Thursday night class was a strength class, which is probably my least favorite because the treadmill intervals are pretty much hill sprints. I am soooo not a fan of hill sprints. My calves were killing me by the end of class.
Friday – Strength Training + Cross Training
- Strength Training – Arms + Abs (LiveFit Trainer Day 39, 57 min.)
- Elliptical – 1.32 miles, 15:00 minutes
On Friday, I knew that I need to give my legs a rest but I also knew that I was really behind on the LiveFit Trainer schedule for the week. I decided to do one of the upper body strength workouts and hold off on doing any legs work until after my weekend long run. After some stretching, I headed to the weight room for an arms and abs workout. I didn’t really increase my weights from the previous week but my arms were pretty darn sore when I finished. Once I finished my strength workout, I headed over to the elliptical for some much needed cross training. With as much running as I have been doing lately, I should be doing an equal amount of cross training but I haven’t really done any in a really long time.
Saturday – Rest
Saturday was a day for getting things done and doing nothing at all. Pete and I really didn’t want to do much of anything except be lazy home bodies. This issue was magnified by the torrential rains we had for almost the entire day. Of course, I needed to finish some things up around the house so I did manage to get something done.
Sunday – Long Run
- 8.01 miles, 1:46:00 (total time), 13:16 min/mile avg. pace, 146 BPM HR
After even more rain, we finally left the house on Sunday afternoon and headed to the gym. By this time in the weekend, my only goal was to complete my long run. I knew that I would need to spend some serious time at the gym if I was going to finish the rest of the LiveFit Trainer workouts for the week. I opted to focus on my long run and didn’t worry about the rest of my strength workouts. I am having some serious issues with balancing my workouts during the week and keeping up my motivation on the weekends. Hopefully, those issues will work themselves out by the end of August.
How did your workouts go last week?
