Getting back to a regular fitness routine can be a difficult task after a weekend of total indulgence and a week of less than stellar workouts. Since I spent most of the previous weekend eating far too much and drinking a little bit more than normal, I was eager to get back to the gym. Sticking to my training schedule is going to be a struggle over the coming months but I am bound and determined to make it happen. I haven’t quite figured out what caused the shift but I am really taking this marathon training cycle very seriously. It might have something to do with the upcoming rounds of wedding dress shopping. Let’s take a look at how my workouts went last week.
Monday – Strength Training + Easy Run
- Strength Training – Back (LiveFit Trainer Day 29, 37 min.)
- 2.04 miles, 27:00 minutes, 13:11 min/mile avg. pace, 149 BPM HR
On Monday, I was ready to hit the gym! I really wanted to go for a short, easy run and needed to lift weights. I listened to my body and headed to the gym after work. Like all of my workouts, I started off with some stretching before hitting the weight room. When I was ready, I headed off to do a strength workout that focused on my back. This week’s LiveFit Trainer workouts shifted the focus of the workouts from traditional groupings to specific muscle groups. My body was in for a bit of a shock but a good one. It is good to shake up your workouts every once in a while to keep your body guessing. After my strength workout, I jumped on the treadmill for an easy 2 mile run. It ended up being a not-so-easy run since my legs were stiff from not being used very much the previous week.
Tuesday – Strength Training
- Strength Training – Legs (LiveFit Trainer Day 31, 61 min.)
After work on Tuesday, I headed back to the gym for another strength workout. It was supposed to be a chest workout according the LiveFit Trainer program but I decided to switch things around a bit. I wasn’t sure when we would be going to the Orange Theory Fitness this week and I was scheduled for two legs workouts this week. I figured it would have been a bit much to try and do two legs workouts with only a day in between them. The first legs workout of the week was a tough one! I didn’t use heavy weights for the most part and I left the gym with jelly legs.
Wednesday – Strength Training + Easy Run
- Strength Training – Chest and Abs (LiveFit Trainer Day 30, 48 min.)
- 3.19 miles, 41:56 minutes, 13:08 min/mile avg. pace, 147 BPM HR
During the work day, my coworker and I decided to go our weekly Orange Theory Fitness class on Thursday night instead of Wednesday. Thankfully, I was prepared for both types of workouts and was able to go straight to the gym after work. Of course, my legs were killing me and I wasn’t quite sure how my run was going to go. I started off with some stretching in hopes of breaking up the lactic acid in my legs. After my stretching, I went to the weight room to do a chest and abs workout. I was actually thrilled to be doing a regular workout instead of an OTF workout since my legs were so stiff. However, I had a 3 mile easy run on the schedule and my legs were not too pleased with me for that. I finished it though.
Thursday – Orange Theory Fitness Class
- Orange Theory Fitness Class (60 min.)
- Intervals – 2.60 miles, 28:37 minutes, 10:59 min/mile avg. pace
On Thursday evening, my coworker and I went to our first OTF class in more than a week. I have decided that missing a week does not make the OTF classes any easier. Thursday’s class was a power class so all of the blocks and intervals were intended to be explosive. We started off on the treadmills and my legs were screaming at me! Seriously, my legs needed a break. While we were running away, the computer system that tracks our heart rates during the class crashed and I had no data to look at the during the class. I was actually pretty upset by that because I thought that I had finally made it into the ‘red’ zone while I was on the treadmill. After the run was done, we spent the rest of the class on the rowing machines and in the weight room. I was thrilled when we didn’t do a lot of weight lifting with our legs.
Friday – Strength Training
- Strength Training – Arms and Abs (LiveFit Trainer Day 32, 57 min.)
The weather on Friday was absolutely dismal and totally dreary. I didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning and that led to an entire day of sluggishness. Whenever the weather is rainy all day long, my energy level is pretty much non-existent. When I left work, I seriously considered just going home to relax and do nothing. I ended up convincing myself to go to the gym and did an easy-ish strength workout that focused on my arms and abs. I though about doing some cross training on the elliptical machine afterwards but my legs really needed a day off.
Saturday – Rest
My original plan for Saturday included a long run and some strength training. When I woke up to another rainy morning, I decided to take it as a sign to have a rest day. Plus, my coworker and I discussed going to another OTF class on Sunday after spending a few hours at the office. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about having to work over the weekend but we have some crazy deadlines coming up. Going into the office on Sunday meant that I really needed a solid day off to relax, which is exactly what I did on Saturday.
Sunday – Rest
Since I didn’t really workout on Saturday, my hope was to go to another OTF class and finish up my long run distance when I got home. That is not exactly how my day ended up going. After spending a few hours at the office, my coworker and I didn’t end up going to the late OTF class like we did a few weeks ago. Instead, I ended up going home after working and relaxed on the couch. Not exactly the kind of weekend that I wanted. Hopefully, I can get into a better rhythm of completing my long runs before marathon training officially starts.
