Happy National Running Day! Did you celebrate with a run today? I didn’t do a formal run but we did some crazy intervals on the treadmill during my Orange Theory Fitness class tonight. I seriously think that the trainers get a thrill out of watching people struggle during those intervals but maybe that is just me. I had fun and I am really starting to think that these classes will help me become a faster runner.
My workouts last week were supposed to follow Week 4 of the LiveFit Trainer program with an OTF class in the middle of the week. Unfortunately, that is not exactly how my week went down. The holiday at the beginning of the week really threw me off. Some people can take Mondays off from the gym but I can’t. It sets the tone for the rest of the week and sort gives me an extra stash of excuses to use when I am already on the fence about going to the gym. It is so easy to throw the entire week away when you start the week off by skipping a workout. I really need to work on that!

Last Monday was Memorial Day here in the United States, which means that I didn’t have to go to work. It should have been really easy for me to go to the gym since I didn’t have to go into the office. However, I made plans to go to the baseball game with my dad so my day was based on Pete’s schedule to avoid having multiple cars at the stadium. in other words, I didn’t go to the gym. When I left work on Tuesday evening, I was not exactly feeling like going to the gym. The weather also decided to take a noise dive on my drive home. The thunderous downpour gave me an excellent excuse to just head home and skip my workout. Not exactly what I should have done but then again hindsight is always 20/20.
On Wednesday evening, I headed back to the Orange Theory Fitness near my office for my second class. Last week’s class was a strength class so it was very different from the power class I did previously. Since I was super lazy up until that class and my eating habits were equally horrible, my workout did not go as smoothly as the week before. I was unprepared for the hill intervals on the treadmill and wasn’t really able to keep my “base” pace consistent. Needless to say, the workout kicked my butt again and I suffered for my poor choices on Monday and Tuesday.
Since my OTF class left me feeling not-so-great, I made a point of going to the gym after work on Thursday. Don’t get me wrong. I actually felt great after the class BUT I felt like my level of effort wasn’t exactly where I wanted it to be. On Thursday evening, I did the legs workout that I was supposed to do on Monday. It was probably not very smart because my legs were still a little sore my from the squats and hill intervals that I did in the class.
On Friday evening, I headed to the gym with some pretty high hopes. I wanted to do the back and biceps workout as well as the chest and triceps workout AND do an easy run on the treadmill. I should probably start lowering my expectations for what I will actually accomplish at the gym on a Friday night because I only did the back and biceps workout. Of course, my arms felt like jelly afterwards so I was feeling pretty good about my effort level.
On Saturday, Pete and I went back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for another dose of Star Wars Weekends. We are serious nerds when it comes to those movies. I am so glad that I found someone who is just as excited about those movies as I am. We watched the Legends of the Saga motorcade, attending the Stars of the Saga talk show, and enjoyed some delicious eats at the Rebel Hanger. Oh and one of the Mos Eisley Cantina band members totally tried to get in on our fun for the day.
We were so inspired by our Star Wars fun that we spent our entire Sunday watching all of the Star Wars movies … again. It was awesome and completely unproductive at the same time. My original plan for Sunday was to go to the gym to attempt at least one of the remaining two strength workouts for Week 4 and fit in an easy run. That obviously didn’t happen. Sometimes, a lazy day of movie watching is exactly what the doctor ordered.
How did your workouts go last week?
