Thank goodness that week is finally over! Last week was not exactly the week I was hoping to start the month off with. I haven’t really laid out what my goals are for March but I would like to at least run the same number of miles that I did in February. I figure that will keep me in shape to run a half marathon at any given moment. While I don’t have any big races coming up until November, I like the idea of being able to run one when ever the mood strikes. Plus, I am hoping that keeping my mileage up will help me train better (and harder) when marathon training starts up again.
Overall, last week wasn’t horrible but it really could have been better. I think that Pete and I are flat out exhausted of being sick all of the time. It seems like we have been passing this head cold back and forth between us since December and this round has been particularly brutal. Hopefully, this is the last round of being sick so that we can move forward and get started on some serious training. I only have until the end of the year to get into bridal shape so that I will be where I want to be for dress shopping. When Pete popped the question, I decided that I wanted to get into shape before I went dress shopping so that I wasn’t scrambling at the last minute. I also have some big running plans for the end of the year. I am gunning for a half marathon PR!

When I woke up on Monday morning, the head cold that started coming on at the end of the previous week showed up in full force. My whole body ached and I could barely get out of bed. I decided that it was going to be a day of rest even though I was actually looking forward to my after work run. After a much needed day of rest, I went to work on Tuesday morning but still wasn’t quite ready to go for a run. My friend already had plans after work so I had another day of rest to try to get over this round of sickness.
On Wednesday morning, I was finally starting to feel normal again and was ready to go for a run. My friend and I met after work and set off for our speed work run of the week. After the previous week’s 5k run, we discussed adding in some speed work into our weekly running routine. Our goal was to run a 5k faster than the previous week and work towards increasing the length of our run intervals and decreasing the number of walk breaks. However, our run did not really go according to our plan. The summer heat (and humidity) hit with full force and my lingering head cold made breathing a little bit harder than we expected. We did manage to push ourselves and felt pretty good about how we did.
Since we are aiming to get in two runs during the work week, my friend and I met up after work again on Thursday evening. Our legs were pretty tight from the previous night’s speed work so our pace ended up being much easier. We still kept up a pretty good pace though. I still can’t believe how much faster my pace has been since I started running with someone. Hopefully, I will be able to keep up with this new momentum. I am really hoping that I can work on my pace enough this summer to finally get a new half marathon PR.
On Friday, I was exhausted and my body needed a rest day. I was still feeling the effects of my head cold and Pete was starting to come down with it. In order to get some miles in, I planned to do a longish run at some point on Saturday. My body had other plans though. I really think that this head cold was a little bit more than I originally thought it was because my whole body felt achy again. Pete wasn’t doing much better and I felt bad that he had to go to work.
On Sunday, we were both feeling a tiny bit better so we decided to spend the day with his cousin at Hollywood Studios. I can’t tell you the last time we just spent an entire day at the parks. Normally, we only spend a few hours here and there but I think that has to do with having annual passes. Pete’s cousin and family were in town from North Carolina so they were spending as much time as possible in each of the four parks. We had a lot of fun showing them around and spending time with them.
How did your workouts go last week?
PS: I am hoping to get back to my (somewhat) normal posting schedule next week. I have been slammed at work and it has been rather difficult to keep up with everything.
