Is it really Wednesday? I just can’t seem to catch up lately. Sometimes it takes so much extra time after a weekend away to get back into the regular swing of things. I don’t think that it helped any that work has been crazy of that Pete and I are sick once again. We keep passing this head cold back and forth between each other and it is getting down right ridiculous.
Anyway, last week was a pretty easy week in terms of my workouts. I spent some extra time at the office so I didn’t make it to the gym for any strength training or cross training. Those are two areas that I really want to focus on now that I am not really training for any races. Wait, what!?! That’s right. I don’t have any more big races on my calendar until November. Just like last spring and summer, I want to spend some time focusing on my strength and my speed so long distance running will be taking a bit of a back burner. I still want to be in “half marathon” shape so I will be aiming for one long-ish run a week but I won’t be trying to push myself too much in that department.

On Monday, Pete and I headed home from Orlando. I love spending time at Walt Disney World but I also love coming home. Since it was a traveling day, neither one of us was really in the mood to go to the gym an work out. Plus, my legs were still a little sore from the Glass Slipper Challenge. I probably could have done something but I just wasn’t really feeling it.
On Tuesday, I planned to go for a run with my friend but that wasn’t in the cards. We both ended up working late so we rescheduled our run for the next day. On Wednesday, I really wasn’t planning to run fast or even push myself. I figured that we would just take it easy since we had both run races over the weekend. I was wrong. We ended up running our fastest pace to date (since we started running together) and my fastest 5k in a while. My legs (especially my calves) were not happy with me at all but it actually felt pretty good. When we were finished, we talked about how we wanted to incorporate more speed work into our weekly routine.
Even we had run on Wednesday evening, my friend and I really wanted to get in two runs during the week so we met up on Thursday evening for our second run. We tried to take it easier since we accidentally pushed ourselves the night before. That plan didn’t work very well. We started talking and running and ended up not going very easy at all. I am going to attribute this to both of us having pretty rough weeks at work and really needing a good venting session.
My legs were exhausted on Friday and I felt the initial signs of a cold coming on. I really wanted to get to at least 60 miles for the month of February so I decided to knock out the last (almost) 3 miles on Saturday before heading back to Walt Disney World with my mom and baby sister. I was also starting to see some initial signs of getting sick again! A lingering scratchy throat was not a good sign.
On Saturday morning, I jumped on the treadmill and busted out the last 2.94 miles I needed to reach my (modified) goal for February. My legs felt pretty good afterwards and my only issue was the lingering scratchy throat. When I was done, I quickly changed and threw together an overnight bag before meeting up with my family for a short trip to Disney. My mom, sister, and I were headed over to the Grand Floridian for our second Disney Fairy Tale Wedding Showcase. I really enjoyed the one we attended in September and was really looking forward to learning even more about the Disney Weddings process.
After an evening full of wedding stuff, I woke on Sunday morning ready for a leisurely day wandering around Disney. My mom, sister, and I spent some time in Epcot and also checked out some other possible venue locations before heading home. On the ride home, I realized that the lingering scratchy throat was turning into a full blown cold (or flu!). I got home and just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep it off. I was really glad that I had completed my weekend run the day before because it was not going to happen on Sunday.
How did your workouts go last week?
