Good morning friends! How was your work week? Mine was a lot longer than I expected it to be. Seriously! I knew that I would be putting in some long hours after my vacation but not like this this. My boss warned me before I left for our (second) cruise that it was going to be a rough couple of weeks. I guess I just didn’t expect it to hit me like a freight train as soon as I got off of the boat. I was hoping that I would have a few weeks to get back into my fitness groove before my work life got in the way again. How is your weekend going so far? Peter and I spent most of yesterday doing a whole lot of nothing. We did manage to run around doing most of our shopping for the week though. Today, we are planning to hit the gym and probably continue our lazy streak.
Not only is it the end of another work week, it is also the end of the first month of it the year. I can’t believe that we are already one month into the new year. For the most part, this month has felt like it was flying by while at the same time it seemed like it would never end. I think that may have something to do with the holidays and our 9 day vacation in the middle of the month. Speaking of our vacation, I still have a bunch of recaps to write and post. I am working on them and I will hopefully have them all finished up sooner than later. Since it is the end of the month, I thought it would be a good idea to check in on my goals for the month and relive some of my favorite adventures before February begins.
Health + Fitness: Rock the Dopey Challenge! Run 100 miles.
I kicked butt at this goal! Well, almost. At first, I wasn’t very proud of how the marathon portion of the Dopey Challenge went. I have been thinking about that race experience for the last few weeks and I can honestly say that I really did rock this year’s Dopey Challenge. While I didn’t finish the marathon in the time that I wanted to, I did knock some significant time off of the other three races in the challenge. I also learned a lot about what I need to do for next year’s challenge. Even though I had 51.7 miles of race miles in January, I didn’t quite reach my goal of 100 total miles for the month. I completed 90 of the 100 and I am pretty darn proud of that. I could have attempted to complete those last 10 miles yesterday but I just wasn’t really feeling it. Maybe if I hadn’t been dealing with a head cold and the lingering after effects for the last two weeks I would have had an easy time completing my mileage goal. I can honestly say that I am feeling a lot better about my running and I know that I will only continue to get better as the year goes on.
Blogging: Be consistent and engaging.
I think I did pretty good with this goal. There is still a lot of room for improvement but I feel like I am moving in the right direction. I plan to spend a lot more time working on my blog this year. I have been working one creating (and sticking to) a content calendar as well as being more engaging with my readers and followers. My biggest obstacle is my crazy work schedule and my lack of motivation when I get home from work.
Photography: Take (and share) photos daily.
So this goal did not go very well at all. I started strong and was doing until we got on the cruise ship. That was when it all fell apart for me. I took a bunch of photos while we were on the cruise but I didn’t share any of them. Towards the end of January, I started to get back into the groove. One of my biggest problems is that my daily life isn’t always the most photogenic. I work in a grey cubicle and pretty much eat the same thing day in and day out. To me, my life can be pretty boring. I am trying to find the joy and beauty in my everyday life though and it is happening slowly but surely.
Life: Get organized.
I did pretty good at this goal. As part of this goal, I have been making a point to leave my planner out and about so that I am forced to look at it all the time. I have found that if something is in my way then I am more likely to pay attention to it and actually use it. It really helped me use my planner a lot more than I ever have before.
How did you do on your goals for January?
