Good afternoon! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty darn relaxing and exactly what I needed. Last week did not turn out to be the week I was hoping for. I really wanted to get back into a workout routine but that didn’t happen. After several crazy insane weeks, Pete and I came down with another nasty head cold that has kept us both doped up on meds for most of the week. I am so not a fan of taking medicine but that it is the only thing that helped us breath and get some decent sleep at night. Saturday was the first day that we both felt good enough to go to the gym. Thankfully, we are both feeling better and we will be able to get back into our workout routine this week.
Monday – Cross Training + Strength Training
Elliptical – 1.14 miles, 15:00 minutes
NROLFW – Stage 1, Workout 3A (33 minutes)
Tuesday – Rest (Sick Day)
Wednesday – Rest (Sick Day)
Thursday – Rest (Sick Day)
Friday – Rest (Sick Day)
Saturday – Easy Run
4.02 miles, 58:01 minutes, 14:29 min/mile avg. pace
Sunday – Rest
After work on Monday, I headed to the gym for my first post-Dopey and cruise workout. One of my goals moving forward is to incorporate more cross training and strength training. I sort of fell off of that bandwagon in the last month leading up to the Dopey Challenge. I was so focused on logging the miles that I didn’t really make time for any of type of workout. By Monday evening, Pete wasn’t feeling good at all so I went to the gym by myself. I started with an easy warm up on the elliptical machine before doing a NROLFW workout. I like the NROLFW workouts because they are full body workouts and they are challenging. I added 2 one minute planks at the end of my workout for a little extra core work.
On Tuesday morning, I woke up feeling absolutely horrible. I could hardly breath, my head was pounding, and my whole body just ached! I took some meds and I went to work hoping that I would feel better by the end of the work day. Unfortunately, the meds didn’t help as much as I would have liked. I actually felt worse by the time I left the office so I decided that my planned easy run would just have to wait. For the rest of the week, I didn’t feel well enough to get in a trip to the gym and Pete wasn’t feeling much better. We started to feel a little better on Friday but we wanted to give our bodies one more day to get well.
When woke up on Saturday, we decided that we were both ready to go to the gym again. I was itching to run and I could finally breath through my nose again. That evening we went to the gym for the first time in what seemed like forever. My plan for the weekend was to fit in a set of back to back runs. Even though the Dopey Challenge is over, I still have the Glass Slipper Challenge coming up in a few short weeks. When we got to the gym, I jumped on the treadmill to knock out an easy 4 mile run. In an effort to see how my legs were feeling, I pushed my body a little bit with my intervals. My legs felt surprisingly great and I managed to follow my 2:1 intervals, which I haven’t been able to follow since November.
My plan for Sunday was to run an easy 8 miles. Somehow, that just didn’t happen. I got a little distracted with writing and going through our vacation photos. I was also feeling a little congested again. While it was a good distraction, I was completely unintentional and I actually really wanted to go for a run. Maybe my body might need another day off to feel completely better. I did get some work done on my blog, which I have been meaning to do for quite some time. With another half marathon (and back-to-back challenge) around the corner, I will need to get in some decent long runs in the coming weeks though.
How did your workouts go last week?
