Good evening! How are you doing today? Pete and I are still on our cruise enjoying the beautiful sunshine of The Bahamas. We won’t be returning until Friday morning and I will have plenty of recaps from the races and our trip then. In the mean time, I thought we could talk a little bit about one of the many struggles I have when I am trying to lose weight.
One of the hardest parts of losing weight for me is controlling my mid afternoon hunger. Seriously! When that 3 o’clock hour rolls around, I am on the hunt something to munch on. It gets even worse when I am working late at the office. On those days, I know I won’t be eating dinner until after 8 and I will usually get hungry again. While I try to bring enough snacks with me to quench my hunger throughout the day, it doesn’t always works out in my favor. I often times end up going to the vending machine or the candy jar in the office, which are not the healthiest options. The worst part is when the snacks that I brought are not even close to what I want to eat. Either they aren’t sweet enough or I am just not in the mood for whatever it is.
One way that I try to combat my trips to the vending machine or candy jar is by keeping some of my favorite sweet (and healthy) snacks at my desk. My thought is that I will reach for one of those extra snacks instead of grabbing something not so healthy from the candy jar or vending machine. What exactly is a healthy snack? For myself, I try to keep my snacks to around 300 calories total so that they satisfy my hunger and keep my blood sugar levels regulated. When I running more or training harder, I will increase my snack time calories or I will make sure that there is plenty of protein and carbs in them. I also like to combine different snack foods to get to my desired calorie count, which allows me enjoy sweet and savory foods.
My favorite snack foods are light in calories, full of flavor, and made with wholesome ingredients. Granola bars are perfect for me, especially when I am craving something sweet in the middle of the afternoon. Lucky for me, the folks at Special K just came out with 4 new snack bars that fit all of my criteria. These snack bars are only 100 calories and are made with delicious, wholesome ingredients. They are so new that they just hit the shelves this month! Did I mention that they are reasonably priced too? It is less than $3 for a box of 6!
Special K products are some of my favorites so I was thrilled to have the chance to try these new snack bars out. I have to say that my favorite flavor was the Salted Pretzel Chocolate. It was absolutely yummy! The Blueberry Bliss came in a close second for me. The Berry Medley and the Salted Caramel Chocolate were quite delicious too. These snack bars are an excellent snack option for when I get those mid afternoon cravings. They are sweet, chewy, and have a slight crunch
What are your favorite healthy snack foods? Which flavor of the new Special K Snack Bars would you like to try?
