Good afternoon! How is your Saturday going? Pete and I slept in later than we normally do, which was actually kind of nice. After a week of being sick, we are both starting to feel better so we are hoping to head to the gym in a little bit. I can’t wait to finally log in some miles. I am finally ready to start sharing some of my recaps from this year’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend so let’s start with the Health and Fitness Expo.
On Wednesday afternoon, Pete picked me up from work around 4 PM. I was running around like a headless chicken trying to get everything situated before leaving the office for a week and a half. Once I was in the car and ready to go, we headed straight over to the ESPN Wide World of Sports. I also wanted to check out the merchandise available for the Dopey Challenge and grab a few last minute race day essentials. When we arrived, we didn’t have any difficulty getting a parking spot. The first thing we did was head straight for the HP Field House to get my race packets for both the Dopey Challenge and the Castaway Cay Challenge. Tip: If you want to avoid super long lines at the Expo, don’t arrive as soon as it opens.
Once I had my race packets in hand, we wandered around the rest of the Expo to check out the merchandise and get my official race shirts. Since I was running the Dopey Challenge, I needed to take a few extra steps before I could do that. After each leg of the Dopey Challenge last year, I received a wristband to prove that I had completed that leg. There were several issues with that so runDisney changed things up a bit. Before I left the Expo, I had to get my picture taken with my race bib so they could verify that I was the correct person crossing the finish line. I actually really liked the idea of the photo recognition.
Even though we avoided most of the crazy lines by going later in the day, we did miss the chance to see all of the available merchandise. The women’s cut version of the “I Did It!” shirt was sold out in my size by the time we arrived. I actually preferred the color of the men’s cut so I ended up getting that one. I also picked up a magnet and this year’s vinylmation Mickey. They didn’t have any medals for the vinylmation dolls this year, which I thought was a bummer. I really liked the idea of giving Mickey his medal when I earned mine. I also picked up my pre-ordered Dooney & Burke purse. I totally splurged on that because I really liked the pattern.
After we were done at the Expo, we headed off property to grab some dinner. We were both starving and were ready to eat each other’s arms off by this point. Pete decided to grab a burger from Fuddrucker’s and I grabbed a noodle dish from Noodles & Company to begin my carbo-loading for the weekend.
With food in our bellies, we were finally ready to go check into our hotel for the weekend. We drove over to Bay Lake Tower and unloaded the car. We had a crazy amount of stuff with us for this race weekend. The forecast predicted at least two really cold mornings so I had a bunch of warm and cold weather running gear as well as clothes to wear when I wasn’t running. Oh and we also had our stuff for the cruise. By the time we got everything situated, I was SO ready to crash and get some sleep for the 5k in the morning.
