Last week was fabulous in terms of running. I knocked out 4 runs for almost 11 miles and my body felt pretty darn good. I would have liked to get in a few more strength workouts but it didn’t happen. In terms of working out, last week was so much better than the week before. When it comes to my personal life, I am pretty sure that nothing will top that amazing Sunday at Epcot. My normal thought pattern of the day has gone completely topsy-turvy and I feel like my mind keeps wandering to wedding stuff. I feel so behind because we haven’t set an official date or chosen a location. It has only been a week and I am already stressing out. One of my goals for this week is to stop thinking about it so much until after we get back from our trip to Chicago.
I am officially starting my Space Coast Marathon training plan today and I am oddly excited about it. I think Krissy has done an awesome job with creating a very doable plan for me. My plan is also going to accommodate the Dopey Challenge in January. My goal for the Space Coast Marathon is to not out a sub 6 hour time and I feel like this plan will help me get there. Since I am starting marathon training, I have decided to back down my strength training. I wanted to finish the LiveFit Trainer program but that wasn’t in the cards this time. Pete and I have discussed it and I think we are going to try to finish the program again next year after I have finished this racing season. To supplement my running workouts, I will be working my through the NROLFW program (again). I felt like these workouts would be a perfect compliment because they are full body workouts.

When I left work on Monday, all I wanted to do was go for a run. I needed to work off all of the rich food I had eaten at the Food and Wine Conference. It was delicious but holy crow did I feel heavy afterwards. Pete was still having some car problems and didn’t have a way of getting to the gym without me going home to get him. Instead of going to the gym, I just headed home and knocked out an run on the treadmill we have in the garage.
After work on Tuesday, Pete and I met at the gym for a strength workout. I did a short warm up run on the treadmill instead of warming up on the elliptical. I wanted to make sure that my weekly mileage was in a good place before starting my new marathon training plan. When we finished our warms ups, we headed over to the free weights to do a chest, shoulders, and abs workout.
On Wednesday night, we had dinner with my parents to show off my ring and start some initial wedding conversations. I am seriously amazed by how much planning I have to do to make our wedding day amazing. It was also fun to hear some of my parents’ stories about their engagement and wedding day. All Thursday, my mind was consumed with wedding stuff and I started feeling extremely overwhelmed. By the time I finished work, I was not in the mood to go to the gym even though I needed to clear my head.
Friday evening, I left work a little early and drove over to St. Pete Beach for the second race of the Summer Beach 5k Series. I was hoping to have a better time than the June race but my body had other plans. I really need to learn how to stick to my pre-race routine no matter what time of day the race is. I didn’t manage to use the bathroom before the race and there weren’t any port-a-potties along the course I guess it is difficult to put those up along a public beach. Every time I tried to speed up, my body let me know that it was not the best idea. My finish time was a little over a minute slower than it was last month. Hopefully, I will be able to really knock it out of the park for the final race next month.
Saturday was my lazy day for the week and it was awesome. I got some work done around the house and on my blog, which was really needed. I also spend some time going over my new marathon training plan. On Sunday, I put off my run for a little bit longer than I should. I wasn’t really planning to do anything long than 3 or 4 miles but I just didn’t want to get started. Finally, I couldn’t put it off any longer so I changed and jumped on the treadmill. It was just a little too hot to run outside under the blazing hot sun! Instead of doing my normal 2/1 run-walk intervals, I decided to run the entire distance and try to keep my pace between my marathon pace and my easy/long run pace. My heart rate was a little bit higher than it has been lately but I also haven’t run a solid 3 miles without a walk break in a while. Overall, I think it went really well.
How did your workouts go last week?
