While I was making my way through the finisher’s area of the Disney Family Fun Run 5k, Pete sent me a text message with his location. Apparently, he fell back asleep after I headed off to the race and completely slept through the race. I quickly grabbed my stuff and headed over to the monorail station. When I got off at the Transportation and Ticket Center, he was waiting for me with a delicious cup of hot coffee in hand.
We hopped on the Resort Monorail and headed back to the hotel room. I really wanted to take a hot shower and get changed before our breakfast reservations. When we were ready to go, we jumped back on the monorail and went over to the Polynesian Resort to have breakfast at the Kona Cafe. After we arrived and checked in, we only had to wait about 10 minutes before our table was ready. We sat down and immediately ordered a French Press of Kona Coffee! This is probably the best coffee that you can find on the Walt Disney World Resort property … seriously!
For breakfast, I decided to try The Samoan because it sounded similar to Eggs Benedict (my favorite breakfast food ever). According to the menu, The Samoan is poached eggs with hollandaise over smoked pulled pork hash. The dish was amazing and bursting with flavor! The hash was made of pulled pork, sautéed onions, English muffin croutons and potatoes. It was awesome! I also ordered a Fresh Fruit Cup on the side.
Pete decided to try the Steak and Eggs for breakfast. The Steak and Eggs is a char-grilled New York strip served with two eggs, potatoes and a biscuit. He decided to go with a bagel instead of the biscuit. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. He really enjoyed this dish.
After breakfast, we decided to head over to the Magic Kingdom to spend a few hours in the park. Knowing that we were probably going to head over that way after breakfast, I went ahead and scheduled our Fast Passes for the day. I really do love the MyMagic+ system! It makes it so much easier to plan out the day when you know where you have to be. After taking a few photos at Cinderella’s Castle, we headed over to Big Thunder Mountain.
I really think that Pluto liked his medallion. What do you think?
Big Thunder Mountain is one of our favorite rides so we always try and go on it when we are there. After that, it was time for the Florida Citrus Swirl from the Sunshine Tree Terrace. A lot of people claim that the Dole Whip is where it is at BUT I am here to tell you that the Citrus Swirl is out of this world! It isn’t that the Dole Whip isn’t good because it is. However, the Citrus Swirl is simply amazing!
When we finished our snack, it was time for us to head over to The Haunted Mansion for our next Fast Pass. We had decided to take it super easy in the park so we only worried about going on the rides we had Fast Passes for. The Haunted Mansion was spooktacular as always.
When we got off of that ride, we headed over to the Sleepy Hollow Inn for some Chicken and Waffles Sandwiches. You may remember that we found these delicious treats at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and loved them then. Well we were in the area and we were getting a little hungry so we decided to get a Sweet and Spicy Chicken and Waffle Sandwich. They totally hit the spot!
After we finished our sandwiches, we still had plenty of time to kill before we could use our Fast Passes for Space Mountain. We took our time wandering through shops and looking around New Fantasyland. By this time, the overcast day was turning into a rainy day. It was only drizzling and we were able to stay relatively dry. After riding Space Mountain, we decided to head back to the hotel room.
We had an awesome time at the Magic Kingdom but it was time for me to start getting ready for the next leg of the Dopey Challenge … the Walt Disney World 10k! Oh and I needed to do some carbo-loading.
