Day 3: August 31, 2013
After the 10K, my boyfriend and I went back to the hotel room. I really wanted a shower before doing anything else. Once I was ready to go, we went in search of breakfast. We considered going back to the La Brea Bakery because it was so delicious. Instead, we decided to try Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express. We both ordered the breakfast burrito and split an order of beignets.
Our breakfast totally hit the stop for me. I really needed to eat after the race. I love the snack boxes that runDisney provides but sometimes they aren’t enough for me. My boyfriend isn’t a huge sweets person like me but he thought the beignets were yummy. Who doesn’t enjoy fried dough covered in powdered sugar every now and again?
While we ate, we started talking about what we wanted to do the rest of the day. He wisely suggested that we hold off going into the theme parks until after the half marathon. I wanted to show him the 10k race course but I agreed that saving my legs would be the best plan. Finally, we decided to find some coffee and head back to the Health and Fitness Expo. While I was there the day before, I noticed that ABC was showing previews of some of their new Fall shows. One of them just happened to be Once Upon A Time in Wonderland, which we were both excited about.
We spent our afternoon watching The Goldbergs, Trophy Wife, Lucky 7, Back in the Game, and Once Upon A Time in Wonderland. For the most part, I enjoyed all of the shows. Lucky 7 was my least favorite and I absolutely loved Wonderland. I seriously can’t wait for the season premiere! Time really does fly when you are just sitting there watching television. After the last show, we decided that we were hungry again.
As we walked through the Downtown Disney District, the amazing smells coming from Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen totally snagged us. Even though we had breakfast at the quick service counter, we decided to give the restaurant a try. We started our meal with the Southern Garlic Cheese Bread. We weren’t planning on ordering an appetizer but then we saw and smelled an order of it and couldn’t resist. The bread is covered in basil, mozzarella, roasted garlic and an olive oil puree. Yum!
Knowing that I needed some extra carbs, I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. I can honestly say that this was without a doubt the very best chicken and waffles I have ever eaten. The chicken was lightly battered and pan-fried so it was perfectly crispy and not greasy. The dish was topped with wilted baby arugula, Andouille sausage, mushrooms and a maple butter sauce. Seriously it was amazing!
My boyfriend ordered the Chicken Filetto Di Pomodoro and absolutely loved it. Grilled chicken breast mixed with penne pasta, applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, roasted garlic, and a tomato-basil sauce then topped with shaved asiago cheese. The dish was a little too heavy for me since it was the night before a half marathon but he really enjoyed it.
With full bellies, we decided to wander around a little bit more. We were both determined to stay up later than the night before. I wanted to watch the fireworks and the World of Color shows that were visible from our room. We managed to stay up long enough to watch the first showing of World of Color from our balcony. The show was amazing and we couldn’t wait to see it up close. Around 10 PM (shortly after the show finished), my boyfriend and I passed out.
