Weekly Workouts: July 29, August 5 & August 12, 2013

Has it really been three weeks since my last Weekly Workouts post? These last few weeks have not been great in terms of my workouts. I feel like I am just trying to stay as active as possible while trying to stay sane. As soon as I finished my huge work project, I was thrown into another project with a schedule that feels impossible to meet. I realize that blaming my lack of workouts on my work schedule is just my way of coming up with excuses. The problem I am dealing with is that I am constantly drained and exhausted after work. I don’t have the energy to workout and that is very frustrating to me.

August 2013 Weekly Workouts

Week of July 29, 2013:

  • Monday, 7/29/2013 – Cross Training + Strength Training
    • Elliptical – 0.43 miles, 5:00 minutes
    • Strength Training – NROLFW Workout 2A #1 (43 minutes)
  • Tuesday, 7/30/2013 – Easy Run
    • 4.00 miles, 51:57 minutes, 13:00 min/mile avg. pace
  • Wednesday, 7/31/2013 – Cross Training + Strength Training
    • Elliptical – 2.30 miles, 24:00 minutes
    • Strength Training – NROLFW Workout 2B #1 (49 minutes)
  • Thursday, 8/1/2013 – Rest
  • Friday, 8/2/2013 – Rest
  • Saturday, 8/3/2013 – Rest
  • Sunday, 8/4/2013 – Rest

The last week of July started off great. I decided to restart Stage 2 of the New Rules of Lifting for Women program and the workouts felt really good. My week started off with three days in a row at the gym. By Wednesday afternoon, I actually started to feel like I was going to actually complete every workout on my training plan. That feeling didn’t last very long. My late nights at the office started to catch up with me. When I missed my run on Thursday, the snowball effect started.

Tuesday's Run

Week of August 5, 2013:

  • Monday, 8/5/2013 – Rest

  • Thursday, 8/8/2013 – Easy Run + Cross Training
    • 3.00 miles, 40:00 minutes, 13:20 min/mile avg. pace
    • Walking – 0.25 miles, 5:00 minutes
  • Friday, 8/9/2013 – Rest
  • Saturday, 8/10/2013 – Rest
  • Sunday, 8/11/2013 –Long Run
    • 5.00 miles, 1:07:33 (total time), 13:31 min/mile avg. pace

My lack of workouts continued until Thursday of the following. By that point, I needed a run so badly that my boyfriend insisted we wake up early to go to the gym. It felt amazing knock out three miles on the treadmill despite my pace being a little slower than usual. I was surprised by how much better my mood was after that run. I didn’t get a chance to run again until Sunday morning. Unfortunately, my stomach was not too happy with me and I only managed to finish 5 miles. I was really hoping for a double digit run but my stomach was seriously angry with me. I have a funny feeling that I am at least mildly lactose intolerant.

  • Sunday, 8/18/2013 – Long Run
    • 8.00 miles, 1:53:24 (total time), 14:10 min/mile avg. pace

This past week felt like a much better week overall. I ran three times and managed to fit in a strength session. My stomach finally started feeling better on Wednesday. I brought my gym clothes with me and made sure to leave in enough time to get in a decent workout. Of course, I was a bit of an overachiever and pushed myself a little too hard. I was completely spent by the time I left the gym and I was sore for the next two days. The weekend saw back-to-back runs with my first race of the season and a decent long run. I really slowed my pace down for the long run because I was trying to run the entire distance without taking a walk break. After my long run, I really felt confident about the Dumbo Double Dare.

    I’m glad you got that long run in on Sunday. I really do think that the heat has a lot to do w/ my lack of training. I can’t believe you have Dumbo in 10 days!!!!!!!!!!
