After the Princess Half Marathon Meet Up was over, I met my boyfriend and sister in the Epcot parking lot. Since the Expo wasn’t being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, we decided to check in at the hotel first so headed straight to Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Thankfully, our room was ready for us as soon as we arrived. We dropped off our bags and then headed to the Contempo Café to grab some lunch.
I decided to try the Hot Smoked Turkey Sandwich with a side of chilled green bean salad. It was delicious! The sandwich came with brie, arugula, green apple slices and apple butter. One of my favorite flavor combinations is turkey and apples and this sandwich really played off of that combination well. The chilled green salad was tossed in a sesame teriyaki (or soy) sauce and tasted excellent with the sandwich.
I also started inhaling water. I knew that I would need to be as well hydrated as possible if I was going to survive the race weekend. Not quite the end of February and already shorts were necessary to stay cool in the heat.
After lunch, the three of us headed over to the Coronado Springs Resort for Disney’s Fit for the Princess Health and Fitness Expo. The only way to get there was to take the transportation provided by runDisney, which made it rather difficult to get to and from the Expo.
My Christmas gift to my sister was an entry into the Royal Family 5k. She started running in November and I wanted to give her an awesome race experience. I love runDisney races so much that I really wanted to show her why. To say that I was excited about sharing this weekend with her is a complete understatement. My boyfriend decided that he didn’t want to get in the way of our sisterly bonding so he headed off to explore the rest of the resort.
The first thing we had to do was go pick up our race bibs. As part of her gift, I purchased the three of us tickets to the Princess Breakfast that was being held right after the Royal Family 5k. I thought it would be a great finish to the race morning. Then I headed over to the Half Marathon lines to get my race bib for Sunday morning. I loved that the bibs said “Princess” instead of just our name!
Next, we headed over to the 5k lines so that we could get those bibs. My sister was really excited about this part. Unfortunately, the volunteers had somehow misplaced her race bib so we had to go to the Runner’s Information desk to get her a replacement. It didn’t have her name on it though.
Once we got her bib issue taken care of, we headed over to the rest of the Expo. We needed to pick up our shirts, bags and check the awesome race merchandise.
The Expo was crazy! It is probably a good thing that my boyfriend went to explore the rest of the resort because it was seriously a mad house. There was a line to get into the official race merchandise, which I have never seen at the other Expos I have been too. I think my sister was overwhelmed by all of the craziness going on.
Eventually we made it into the merchandise area and started picking out the items we had to buy. I was a little disappointed that there weren’t any pint glasses. I have two from every other runDisney race weekend except for this one.
My sister managed to snag two of these awesome headbands. They were sold out by the time we went back to the Expo the next day.
With our shirts, bags and official race merchandise in hand, we headed off to explore the rest of the Expo. Our first stop was the runDisney booth. I wanted to show my sister the medallion she was going to be earning after crossing the finish line the next morning. Of course, I think she may have gotten a taste for some of the other medals. By the way, I can’t wait to earn the Coast to Coast medal and Dumbo Dare Challenge medal in September. Oh and I also registered for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon.
We checked out the other booths but didn’t really stay too long. The Expo was super crowded and we were ready to head back to the hotel. Of course, we couldn’t resist stopping by Luna booth for some free samples, the Team Sparkle (now Sparkle Athletic) booth or the Chiquita booth.
I convinced my sister to try a Clif Shot sample. My boyfriend didn’t like the taste or consistency but she didn’t seem to mind them.
I was really excited to see this booth. I needed one last thing to complete my costume for the half marathon on Sunday morning.
Just so you know, Drew Carey’s Plink-o advice did not work very well for me. I picked the middle slot and only got a banana. My sister chose an outside slot and ended up with a banana, apple splices and blue sunglasses.
Once we left the expo, we went in search of my boyfriend and then head back to the hotel. I was starting to feel the effects of waking up at a ridiculously early hour so I knew it was going to be an early evening for me.
We headed back to the Contempo Café to grab dinner to take back to our room. We all decided to get the same thing to eat, the Chicken Basil Pasta, and split the Chicken Chop Salad. It was delicious!
Within a half an hour of finishing dinner, I was passed out on the bed. I was exhausted from waking up early, hanging out with Sean Astin at the Princess Half Meet Up and exploring the Health and Fitness Expo.
