On the Friday following my first marathon, my boyfriend and I found ourselves driving to Amelia Island for the Inaugural ZOOMA Florida Half Marathon and 5k Race Weekend. I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a race ambassador and was really looking forward to meeting the ladies behind this amazing race organization. He picked me up at work around lunchtime and we started the 4+ hour drive to Amelia Island.
We didn’t really stop during the drive so we made it to the host resort a little after 5 pm. We checked into the amazing resort, The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, and headed straight for the room. While he unpacked, I went downstairs to check out the Fitness Expo.
ZOOMA Florida Fitness Expo
The Fitness Expo was held in one of the resort’s conference room, which means it wasn’t nearly as large as the one for the Walt Disney World Marathon. I really liked that aspect of this race weekend. One of the things that my boyfriend and I always talk about it just how crowded, packed and busy the runDisney Health and Fitness Expos are.
I headed to the back of the room to pick up my race packet. I also ran into Tricia, who has been coordinating everything for the race ambassadors. She did an amazing job with keeping everything organized for us! The race bib had a B-tag timing chip on the back so I didn’t have to worry about a tag on my shoe. I really like that timing system!
The bags and shirts were also really nice. I liked that the bag is a shoulder bag, which means I can use it again. The shirt is a tech shirt and the fit is true to size.
After I got my race essentials, I wandered around the rest of the expo. I talked to the ladies at the Muscle Milk booth for a little bit. They were offering samples of all of their flavors. I tried the vanilla crème and really like it!
The ladies from Handful Bra were also at the Expo. I am always on the search for a sports bra that will provide me with the support I need. Right now, I wear a Moving Comfort sports bra but I am not a huge fan of how it fits or the chafing I suffered during the marathon.
A girls’ weekend wouldn’t be complete without wine, right? Barefoot Wine provided plenty of wine for this race weekend and were at the Expo handing out samples of some of their wines. Even though it was the night before the race, I couldn’t resist trying the Moscato and the Moscato Bubbly. Both of those were delicious!
Before I headed back upstairs, I stopped by the Hint table to grab a sample of their flavored water. I chose the Blackberry Fizz flavor.
After the Expo, I headed back upstairs to the room. I wanted to see if my boyfriend was going to go to the Mocktail Party with me or if he just wanted to meet me for dinner afterwards. He decided that a room full of women would be just a little too much for him so he decided to wander around the hotel instead.
Honest Tea Mocktail Party
The Mocktail Party took place in a room located right near the resort’s lobby area and was sponsored by Honest Tea.
There were a few platters with some snacks available. I was pretty hungry by this point so I grabbed some veggies, meat and cheese.
Barefoot Wine provided more delicious wine for the party. I decided that I didn’t want to have any more wine before the race. I was honestly a little nervous about how my bruised toenail would feel and if my body would be ok with me running a half marathon. I didn’t need to be feeling the effects of wine on top of all that.
I did enjoy some of the Honest Tea mocktails though. My favorite flavor of Honest Tea is the Pomegranate Blue so I decided to try the Blue Crush. It was fabulous! I think I may need to try to make this one at home in the near future.
One of the best parts of the Mocktail Party was getting to meet the other Race Ambassadors and the other race participants. I know that I am not the biggest blogger in the world so I always feel like I am in the presence of royalty when I am around these wonderful ladies. By the way, I really do appreciate each and every one of my readers!
We spent some time chatting and getting to know each other. It was nice to meet everyone in person. Since Michelle is pregnant and Caitlin and Presley are both new mothers, children was a hot topic of conversation. My boyfriend and I talk about but neither one of us is ready to take that leap any time soon. We want to get married first.
Pre Race Dinner
After the party, I was starving! My boyfriend must have read my mind because he had room service waiting by the time I got back up to the room. He is amazing, isn’t he?
He ordered a flatbread pizza, some French fries and the seafood chowder. The pizza was a delicious combination of Italian Sausage, Cherry Peppers, Caramelized Onions, and Gorgonzola cheese. The French Fries were tossed in parmesan cheese, which really added a punch of flavor. I didn’t really eat a whole lot of the seafood chowder but I did try a few bites. It was very tasty but a little too heavy for me to eat the night before a race.
Once we were finished with dinner, I got everything ready for the morning. I made sure that I had my outfit ready to go and everything else that I would need during the race.
