2012 Birthday Cruise Day 3

Cruise Fun Day at Sea – 12/3/2012

Just in case you missed it, here is the recap from Embarkation Day and our first port, Nassau.

When I woke up this morning, I still wasn’t feeling well and the Carnival Dream was still rocking and rolling. We decided to not work out this morning because of how much the ship was moving. I showered and got dressed as quickly as possible because I needed to find some fresh air fast. While my boyfriend was finishing up, I went out to the Lido Deck to try to settle my stomach.

By the time my boyfriend found me on the Lido Deck, I was ready to find something for breakfast. When the ship was updated, a special brunch was added to the main dining rooms called The Punchliner Comedy Brunch. We had such a good time at the comedy show last night (and we both LOVE brunch) that we went down to check it out.

Just like the dinner menus, the brunch menu had multiple courses. I ordered the Flamin’ Tomatoes Soup to start with. It was one of the best tomato soups I have ever had. It had the right blend of creaminess, spiciness and texture. My boyfriend decided not order an appetizer.

For the main course, I ordered the Eggs Benedict. My favorite breakfast dish is
definitely eggs benedict and I usually order it whenever I go to a new breakfast
place. This version was one of the best ones I have had. Instead of having the
hollandaise sauce run all over the plate, the chef actually put under the
broiler (I think) to give it a crunch.

Since my boyfriend decided not to order an appetizer, he order two entree dishes. One of them became his absolute favorite dish on the cruise. The other one wasn’t nearly as good. The Huevos Rancheros was seriously amazing! I tried a bite and really liked it. (Not as much as my Eggs Benedict though. :)) The Carne y Huevos wasn’t fantastic but it was yummy. His favorite part was definitely the home fries. I got the grilled tomato. :)

A delicious brunch doesn’t wouldn’t be complete without dessert! As I was reading the menu, I noticed that there was Mexican Churros available for a sweet treat. I simply couldn’t pass them up. I am really glad I didn’t becuase they were simply amazing. Crunchy, sweet and chocolately!

While at breakfast, I decided that I needed to take some motion sickness medicine becuase there was no sign of the rocking and rolling letting up. My boyfriend also suggested that we spend as much time outside as possible. After we were finished with breakfast, we left the main dining and wandered around the ship for the rest of the day. Suffering from motion sickness really put a damper on our day. We did manage to secure spots on an awesome shore excursion for St. Thomas.

We ate so much at breakfast that we weren’t hungry until it was time for dinner. When we were leaving the dining room last night, I asked the hostess what the best times were to come down for dinner to avoid waiting. She informed us to either come early (5:45 pm) or late (after 8:00 pm). Since we hadn’t eaten for a while, we decided to eat dinner as early as possible.

Tonight’s dinner was all about the appetizers for us. We both chose two because everything sounded amazing. I went with the Sushi Trio and the Chilled Cucumber Soup. If you haven’t noticed, I have a thing for soups, even the cold ones. My boyfriend picked the French Onion Soup and the Smoked Chicken Quesadilla.

On the first night of the cruise, I noticed that the menu seemed to be very similar (if not the same) from last year’s cruise. I was thrilled when I saw the Baked Herb Polenta on the menu as one of the main courses tonight. I loved it last year and couldn’t resist getting it again tonight. My boyfriend chose the Braised Style Short Ribs for his main dish. It was very flavorful but reminded him of pot roast.

Tonight’s dessert menu really didn’t excite us so we split a simple Strawberry Cheesecake. I loved that the strawberry sauce was on the side so we could control how much we ate.

After dinner, we went to the evening’s show in the Encore Theater. When the show started, we were both completely fooled but the performer. He did such an fantastic job that it took us a while to figure out that we weren’t watching one of the most amazing artists of all time.

He seriously looks just like Stevie Wonder!! After the show, we spent some time in the casino again and went to the another comedy show. We had a long day ahead of us so we didn’t want to stay out too late. When we got back to our stateroom, we found a platypus towel animal waiting for us.

Next up is our adventures in St. Thomas!
