WDW Marathon Training: Weeks 11 & 12

Marathon-Training-Plan

I’m back! I unintentionally took last week off from pretty much everything, including writing/blogging. I think I really needed it because I am ready to get back on track. The last two weeks have been really, really tough when it comes to my workouts. I came home from the Wine and Dine Race Weekend with a really nasty head cold and I just now starting to feel like I am back to normal.

Nasty Head Cold = NO Running = Very Unhappy Rachel

My marathon training has been non-existent since that weekend and I am really starting to freak out about the Walt Disney World Marathon! I have SEVEN weeks to finish getting ready for that race. I have modified my plan slightly to make up for the fact that I have missed a few crucial long runs and I am hoping that it will work. I really need to get in at least one 20 mile run before January 13th!

I still wasn’t quite back to normal but I really wanted needed to run. My original plan was to run the 10k race tomorrow morning but I wasn’t sure that would be the best idea. After all, I haven’t run in almost two weeks now. When I got off of work, I headed to the gym to run a few miles on the treadmill. I wanted to see what I was capable of and what I would be able to handle tomorrow. My breathing was steady and my legs felt alright for 2 miles. I decided that I would definitely be able to run the 5k race in the morning!

  • Thursday, 11/15/2012 – Turkey Trot 5K
    • 3.10 miles, 36:49 minutes, 11:52 min/mile avg. pace

My boyfriend and I woke up WAY earlier than usual … especially for a holiday. We quickly got ready and headed over to Clearwater High School for the annual Tampa Bay Times Turkey Trot. I loved running the 10k last year and was really excited to run the 5k this year. The race I chose started at 7 AM and was the competitive 5k, known as the Wingding. After I finished my race, my boyfriend and I waited around to watch my parents and sister finish their race, the 1 Mile Gobbler. It was their very first race so I wanted to be there to cheer them on.

  • Friday, 11/16/2012 – Rest/Sick Day

After running two days in a row, I wasn’t really feeling all that great. I think I pushed my luck with this head cold because I woke up feeling horrible again. I went to work for a few hours in the morning. In the afternoon, my boyfriend and I braved the afternoon Black Friday shopping crowds at Target and Walmart. Neither one of us was really ready to start Christmas shopping yet so we didn’t stay up all night for the Doorbuster deals.

Thanks Jessica! I guess I am just nervous because I haven’t really been as focused as I would have liked on this training cycle.

I’m glad you’re starting to feel better! Lately my weeks have been going well. The half marathons in the weekend have been a big boost on the running front. When Mike and I get back from our cruise, we’re going to CrossFit. eeek!

Awesome! Half marathons are excellent motivation for running. I have been seriously thinking about doing CrossFit but I think I am going to hold off a little bit longer. I don’t want it to interfere with my racing schedule. I am definitely going to be focusing on strength training next year though.
