Guess what?!? I am running at Walt Disney World this weekend (again!). I’m sure you guys are really shocked. It seems like I was just there for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler race. Not only will I be running at Disney, I will also be celebrating the anniversary of a huge accomplishment in my running journey.
Just over a year ago, I was headed to Disney for my first ever runDisney race and my first ever half marathon, the 2011 Wine and Dine Half Marathon. When I crossed the finish line of the race, I was an emotional mess. Seeing the finish line and hearing my name called literally brought tears to my eyes. Up until that moment, I honestly had no idea that I was capable of such a thing. My training really hadn’t gone as planned and I wasn’t sure if I would cross the finish line in less than 3 hours. I finished that race in 2:41:27! I stumbled through the finisher’s area and made my way to the spot I was meeting my boyfriend. Even though I was definitely doing some sort of crazy waddle/hobble thing, I was on Cloud 9. I still love every minute of that race to this day.
The moment when I crossed that finish line I decided that I was going to to be back every single year to celebrate that accomplishment. So when registration opened up a few months ago, I signed up that very day. For me, this year’s race is going to be a little different. It won’t be my first half marathon or even my second one. I know what to expect this time around. The course is basically the same as last year’s and I am comfortable with running/racing at night. The one tiny thing different about this year is that I have also signed up for the 5k Fun Run on Saturday morning.
My weekend is going to be an epic fun-filled, crazy running weekend and I can’t wait for it to start! I am a little nervous about running two races in the same day but I know I can do it. My plan is to run the 5k at a slow pace and to save my legs for the half marathon. I want to enjoy both races and to have a great time this weekend.
What are your plans for the weekend?
I seriously can’t wait to earn these two medals!
