One of my favorite parts of a runDisney race weekend (besides the race obviously) is the Health and Fitness Expos.
This morning my boyfriend and I woke up at 6 am to head over to Orlando for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler Race Weekend. Since the race is tonight, I wanted to make sure I had plenty of time to pick up my race packet, check out the expo and get in some relaxation time before the 10 pm race start. Surprisingly, we were out the door ahead of schedule (that seriously never happens) and were on the road a little after 7 am.
The drive didn’t take us nearly as long as we had anticipated so we arrived at the ESPN Wide World of Sports early enough to see all of the Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run finishers walking out to their cars. We also got to see a bunch of the kids races. (I think I may have scared my boyfriend a little when my maternal instincts started to kick.)
At 10 am, the doors of the Jostens Center opened and we made out way inside. Unlike the last two Health and Fitness Expos I have been to, the packet pick up was located in the same place as the rest of the expo. Normally, packet pick up is located in the HP Field House. I found the line with my bib number, picked up my packet and then went over to another line to get my shirt and gear check bag.
Then it was time to wander around the expo. First, we checked out the Sparkly Soul booth so I could purchase a gold sparkly headband for the crown of my racing costume. Next, we headed over to the Raw Threads booth to pick up the shirt I pre-ordered to wear during the race. I will reveal the final running costume decision during the race recap! We also checked out the Yurbuds booth because I had a few questions about my current headphones.
Before we left, we stopped by the runDisney race merchandise booth. I wanted to pick up my essential race memorabilia. I have collected the pint glasses for each of the Disney races. I also have the official “I Did It!” shirts so that I can wear them around the theme parks the next day. I really liked the women’s cut tech shirt but decided that I already have an huge amount of tech shirts and really wanted the regular shirt.
I was also able to look at all of the medals for the Disney races. I really wanted to see the medal for tonight mostly because I was curious to see how elevator worked. I also wanted to see the Walt Disney World Marathon medal in person and to hold it. Somehow it still doesn’t seem real that I will be running my first marathon in January.
I was also excited to see that the medal for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon isn’t going to be changing from last year’s design. I love the simplicity of that medal and can’t wait to earn that medal again this year. The Jingle Jungle 5K medallion looks awesome and I am seriously considering running that race the morning of the Wine and Dine Half. Does that make me crazy?
One thing I really liked about this expo is that runDisney provided detailed maps of the course, the starting area, the finish line and what attractions will be open during the Hollywood Villains Bash afterwards. I know that they provide this information at the other races but have a detailed map of the attractions open during the after party is awesome! It takes all the guess work out of it. Plus, my boyfriend and I can easily pick a location to meet after the race.
Once we were finished at the expo, we made our way over to our hotel so we could check in, grab some lunch and relax before race time. We are headed over to the race now so I will tell you all about our awesome lunch in the next post!
