You guys already know how much I love runDisney and running races at Disney. If you didn’t, then you do now. I ran the 2011 Wine and Dine Half Marathon as my first half marathon and immediately registered for the 2012 Walt Disney World Half Marathon as soon as I got home. I am currently registered for three more Disney races that will be taking place this fall/winter (the Tower of Terror 10 Miler, the Wine and Dine Half Marathon and the Walt Disney World Marathon). I seriously can’t wait to run those races especially my very first full marathon!!!
In honor of Friday the 13th, runDisney released an image of the brand new medal for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror TM 10 Miler. Check it out:
Brave dark and ghostly streets haunted by Disney villains during The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror TM 10 Miler Weekend to earn this runDisney bling! Inspired by the original medal from the runDisney vault, the working elevator is joined by glow-in-the-dark accents to commemorate your run.
Years ago (before I even knew there were such things as races at Disney), there was a race known as the Tower of Terror 13K, which . That race was held at the end of October (near Halloween of course) and was an 8.1 mile course around Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the ESPN Wide World of Sports. The medal for that race also featured The Hollywood Tower Hotel, which is the basis for The Twilight Zone’s Tower of Terror and is one of the landmarks for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
After seeing this medal, I am even more excited about running this race! Seriously, how cool is it that it glows in the dark and the elevator moves!!! My only complaint is that it doesn’t say the word “inaugural” on it. I know that is being picky but hopefully the lanyard will say it. I have never attempted a 10 Mile race before so this will be a first for me. The Tower of Terror 10 Miler is another night race at Disney with an after party at Hollywood Studios. I am hoping that I will finish with plenty of time to enjoy the party/park with my boyfriend. The tickets for the Villains Hollywood Bash went on sale earlier this month and I received my boyfriend’s commemorative ticket this week.
According to the lovely runDisney ladies I spoke to at the Gasparilla Health and Fitness Expo, this race weekend is not intended to be as large as the others that Disney hosts. They hinted that the Expo will probably not be as large and neither will the number of race participants. So if you are considering running this race and haven’t registered yet, do so as soon as possible!! When I checked the website this afternoon, the race is already at 87% capacity!
