Hyde Park Village is a shopping area that is located in the Old Hyde Park district of South Tampa. It is also on my weekend long run route. For the last few months, I have noticed signs for the Fresh Market held at the Village on the first Sunday of every month. Up until today, I really haven’t had an opportunity to check it out.
When I got there, I was a little overwhelmed with everything going on. The village was filled with tents and people were walking around. There were dogs and strollers and loud conversations going on everywhere I looked. Instead of stopping at every single stall, I decided to walk around the entire market and see everything there was to offer. That way I could go back to the stalls that really interested me.
One thing I noticed that really disappointed me was the lack of fresh produce. I was really hoping to see a ton of produce that I could pick up to make some interesting meals with this week. Unfortunately, there was only one fresh produce stand and it really didn’t have anything that excited me.
After I finished making my way around the Market, I decided to check out Sophie’s for lunch. While all of the food looked amazing at the Market, most of it was fried or ethnic and I decided that wouldn’t be the best idea for my stomach after a 8 mile run.
When I went inside, I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. Since it is a bakery café, it is a walk up counter service and you can choose if you are dining in or taking out. The café portion reminded me of antique shop with a French flair. It was a mismatched collection of table and chairs laid out in a unique arrangement. It appeared as if there were tiny living rooms all over the place.
For lunch, I ordered the grilled vegetable sandwich and had a special treat on the side from the bakery case. When I saw the chocolate mousse cups, I simply had to have one!
The chocolate mousse cup was a dark chocolate cup filled with raspberry mousse and topped with a small amount of whipped cream and a fresh raspberry. It was absolutely delicious! Oh and the sandwich was amazing as well. There is just something about the combination of grilled vegetables and goat cheese on French bread.
