What a way to start another magical racing weekend at Disney!
You might remember that back in October I participated in the Meet Up and Eat Up Event during the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. The event was such an amazing experience that I was really excited to see this tweet last Thursday from runDisney.
This morning I was able to participate in the Meet Up and Warm Up Event for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I LOVE DISNEY, which I am all over any opportunity that I have to combine my love of Disney and running.
After waking up at 4:30 and managing to finish getting ready for race weekend, my boyfriend and I headed over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The event was scheduled to start at 7:45 and I didn’t want to be late! (Read: I am a crazy Type A personality!) We arrived just before 7 AM, which gave me a chance to eat my breakfast and settle my nerves a little.
Around 7:30, we walked up to the turnstiles so that I could check in for the event. After signing the waiver, I was given an awesome runDisney tech shirt to change into.
While we were waiting for the event to get started, we were introduced to runDisney’s official training consultant (Jeff Galloway), a celebrity fitness guru (Tony Horton, the creator of P90X) and two reality TV stars (Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca from CBS’s Survivor and The Amazing Race). After the introductions were finished, we headed out for a short run around the park.
- 1.52 miles, 16:24 minutes, 10:48 min/mile average pace
Side Note: It is totally awesome to do a warm up run around a Disney Theme Park when no one is actually in the park. It was also really cool to relive some of the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Race Course in the daylight.
After the run, we headed over the theater where the Beauty & The Beast Show is held. We listened to Jeff Galloway and Tony Horton give us some advice about running and fitness. The information they provided was very interesting/useful.
Then we listened to Ethan and Jenna’s stories. Ethan is such an inspiration just simply based on everything that he has had to overcome in his life. I could relate to Jenna in that she doesn’t like to give up the good things in life (like candy) but she does balance it out with daily exercise and moderation.
Of course, there was time for us to get our pictures taken with the celebrities …

Me with Mickey, who was literally kissing me on the check!!
… before we got to ride on the Tower of Terror! This was an awesome end to the event because they actually took us in the back way so that we wouldn’t have to wait in line!
That’s me in the front row with my arms up in the air!
If you haven’t heard, runDisney just announced that they are bringing back the Tower of Terror race this year. It is a 10 mile night race that will end with a party in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The folks at runDisney indicated that it would definitely be a Halloween themed race with Disney villains on the race course! I am seriously considering doing this one but I haven’t made up my mind yet. I will be in full swing of some serious professional stuff at that time and I don’t want to be too stretched thin. I have until February 14th to decide!
