So far our first day of the long weekend has been pretty busy. While I attended the Meet Up and Warm Up Event, my boyfriend checked us in to the hotel and then headed back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to pick me up. Next, we headed over to the Health and Fitness Expo so I could pick up my race packet, race bib, goody bag and shirt. We also picked up some awesome merchandise to commemorate the race weekend. If you can believe it, we finished all of that before noon!
Once we got back to the car, we realized just how hungry we both were. That is probably why we didn’t want to stick around the Expo any longer than we did. Since our room wasn’t ready yet, we decided to go to Fuddrucker’s for lunch.
I have probably mentioned this before but anytime we are within a 20 mile radius of this place we eat there at least once. My boyfriend absolutely loves this place and since he has been up since 4:30 this morning I figured I owed him so lunch. Boy did he chow down too!
My boyfriend ordered the 1-lb. burger with pepper jack cheese, portabella mushrooms, and bacon. He also had a side of fries, which he covered in cheese. For the most part, he does eat fairly healthy but there are sometimes when he over indulges. That was seriously the largest bun I have ever seen in my life!
I didn’t want to overdo it with my food consumption today so I ordered the Veggie burger on a whole wheat bun with Swiss cheese, portabella mushrooms and guacamole. I also had a side salad with light Italian dressing.
While we were eating, we both received a text message from Disney letting us know that our room was ready. Woohoo! I think at that moment a sense of relief came over us because we really wanted to get settled for the night and relax. Today was already a really long day and tomorrow wasn’t going to be any different.
Instead of going straight to the hotel, we stopped at the grocery store right by Fuddrucker’s. Since we are staying at Bay Lake Tower, our room comes with a kitchenette and we wanted to take full advantage of that. We decided to grab enough food for breakfast and lunches for the weekend so that we would only have to worry about dinners.
Finally, it was time to go check out our hotel!
After we got our hotel room number (they wouldn’t give it to us until after the room was ready), we went to check it out and get settled for the weekend.
View of Bay Lake from our balcony
Around 5:30, we decided to wander around the hotel and see what we could find for dinner. We wandered around both Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary Resort. In the lobby of Bay Lake Tower, we discovered that there was a roof top bar that serves appetizers. Since it was almost sunset, we jumped on the opportunity to check out the Top of the World Bar.
Sunset behind the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
While we really enjoyed the look and feel of the Top of the World Bar, the food selection didn’t sound very filling at all so we continued our search for dinner. We finally decided on the Contempo Café, which is located on the 4th floor of the Contemporary Resort. The menu was perfect because it had PASTA! Hello Carbo-Loading!
My boyfriend and I decided to split the chicken cobb salad, the chicken pasta with a cream sauce, and the chicken spinach artichoke flatbread pizza. Holy yum!! Our choices were dinner were SOOO delicious that we couldn’t stop eating! We actually didn’t finish the pizza so we took it back to the room to save for tomorrow.
After we dinner, we decided to go back the Top of the World Bar to watch the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. Even though we were both exhausted, I am glad that we decided to watch the show because it actually gave me an indication of what the weather would be like tomorrow morning.
After the show, we went back to the room and crashed but not before I set out my outfit for the race!
