Day 2 of Cruise (11/27/2011): Fun Day at Sea
When we went to sleep last night, we had no idea how tired we really were or how dark interior rooms really are. Neither one of us expected to sleep until 8:45 this morning so we didn’t set an alarm.
Yesterday during our spa tour, we were informed that each guest in a Spa Stateroom received free fitness classes instead of paying for them. I immediately signed up for the yoga class at 9 AM today. Needless to say, I woke up in a frenzy and was thrilled I only had to go up two flights of stairs to the Aerobics Studio on the Spa Deck (14). The yoga class was 45 minutes long and was a great way to start the morning.
As soon as the class was over, I found my boyfriend waiting for me in the hallway. He had been in the Lobby participating in the Bean Bag Toss and decided to see if I was done so we could find something for breakfast. We weren’t feeling the buffet on the Lido Deck so we headed done to the Scarlet Dining Room for a sit down meal. I chose half of a red grapefruit and eggs benedict with turkey bacon instead of the Canadian bacon.
After breakfast, we wandered around the ship before heading back to the room. I wanted to take a shower and my boyfriend wanted to get ready for the Texas Hold’em Tournament. While I showered and changed, he went down to the casino. I didn’t want to bother him during the game so I packed my camera bag and grabbed my book just in case I found a quiet place to read. Before I went up to the Serenity Retreat, I went down to the Casino to see if he needed anything. Unfortunately, he wasn’t being given any good hands so he didn’t last very long.
We decided to go back to the Tandoori Station for lunch. It was so delicious yesterday that we really wanted to eat it again today. We grabbed come tandoori chicken, rice, and naan bread and found a table near the pool. Our table ended up being a great location because we were able to stay there and enjoy watching some of the activities on the Lido Deck. One in particular that we enjoyed was the Ice Craving Demonstration. The artist literally craved a Mayan Chief’s head in 19 minutes!
While we were sitting there, we enjoyed on of the daily drink special, “Goombay Smash”. It was another rum drink and I didn’t really like it but my boyfriend did.
After the ice carving, we headed up to the Serenity Retreat to relax and enjoy the afternoon. No such luck on finding a “teacup” chair but we did find some chairs in the shade. It was a beautiful afternoon mostly because the wind finally died down a bit.
We decided to check out the Cloud 9 Spa before getting ready for dinner. First, we spend some time in the Thalassotherapy Pool, which was a whirlpool filled with minerals from the Dead Sea. From the pool, we went to the Laconium Suite, which I called the “hot room”. It wasn’t a steam room but it was hot and started to allow your body temperature to regulate back to normal. After the “hot room”, we tried out the Tepidarium Suite. I called this room the “cool room” because it was the coldest of all the thermal suites. When we were finished in the Thermal Suites, we went to the Relaxation Lounge where enjoyed some naturally flavored water and hot tea. I don’t know about you but that was one of the most relaxing afternoons I have had in a really long time.
When we were done in the Spa, I decided I wanted to go for a run on the treadmill before getting ready for dinner. After last night’s run, I decided that counting my laps was not fun at all and would really be difficult after a mile. The treadmills were awesome! They had a cable so that I could connect my iPod to record my workout data. I was able to get in a 5K run before I needed to go back to the room to get ready for dinner. It was elegant night and I wanted to look really nice.
After getting ready for dinner, my boyfriend and I headed down to the Scarlet Dining Room for dinner. We were feeling inspired so we ordered a bottle of Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling to enjoy with our dinner. Everything on the menu was so delicious looking that we decided to share appetizers and our main dishes. I ordered the pumpkin soup and roasted stuffed mushrooms as appetizers. For dinner, I chose the pan seared fillet of corvina with sautéed vegetables. I can’t put into words how delicious the appetizers and main course was. We split the diet orange glateau and cherries jubilee for dessert. The diet cakes were made from a sugar substitute and we honestly couldn’t tell at all.
Once we finished dinner, we headed upstairs to the Burgundy Lounge located on the Promenade Deck (5). Tonight was the first of the comedy shows put on by the Punchliner Comedy Club. We finished dinner in just enough time to catch the 9:45 show, which was the adults only show featuring Roman. He was absolutely hilarious and we laughed throughout the entire performance.
Exhausted from a day of exploring and wonderful meals, my boyfriend and I went back to our stateroom right after the comedy show. We wanted to be fresh for our first port of call tomorrow.
