Day 4 of Cruise (11/29/2011): Belize City, Belize
While at dinner last night, the four of us discussed what the plan was for today. At this port, we needed to catch a tender ship to get off the ship because the water is too shallow for the cruise ships to dock. My boyfriend wanted to go on a snorkeling trip but they were sold out before we had the opportunity to sign up. I felt really bad because today is his birthday so I wanted to make sure that we still got off of the ship to explore.
Since we couldn’t get off the ship until after 11 AM, I decided to go to the gym as soon as we woke up. I jumped on the treadmill and knocked out a 5K in less than 35 minutes. (I lost my Nike+ sensor and I forgot to write the exact data down ) When I got back to the room, I took a quick shower and we headed down to the Lido Deck to check out the breakfast buffet. I ended up just getting a bagel, raspberry yogurt and half of a red grapefruit.
After breakfast, we went back to our room to grab our bags and finish getting ready to get off the ship. At 11 AM, we met our friends and headed down to the Burgundy Lounge to get in line for the tender boats. It took about an hour to get on a tender boat and make to the port.
When we arrived in Belize City, we were greeted with Caribbean music being played at the bar right at the port terminal. We wandered around all four of the terminals but didn’t venture further into the city. My boyfriend was super excited to find a Harley-Davidson store in one of the terminals. Unfortunately, he didn’t find a shirt that really excited him.
Around 3:30, we decided to head back to ship. Like yesterday, we were getting hungry and didn’t see anything in the port that we wanted to eat. We went back to the terminal and caught the next tender boat back to the ship.
As soon as we got back on the ship, we went straight up to the Lido Deck to grab lunch. The line for the Pizzeria was really long and I didn’t want a burger, hot dog or fries. I went in search of something else to eat and ended up getting an arugula, roasted red pepper and mozzarella sandwich from the Deli. Normally, the sandwich is served cold but I asked them to press it and it was absolutely delicious.
After lunch, my boyfriend and I decided to go to the Spa for some relaxation. What a way a to end the day! We did our usual routine of the whirlpool, “hot room”, “cool room” and ended with the “cold room” for a glass of hot tea and flavored water. After the Spa, we went up to the Serenity Retreat to watch the sunset.
We sat up in the “teacup” chairs for so long. We watched the sun set and moon rise. We stargazed and found our favorite constellation, Orion. Yes, we are one of those couples that has a favorite constellation instead of a song. I think it has to do with our birthdays being so close together.
Reluctantly, we left the Serenity Retreat to go down to our stateroom to get ready for dinner. Before leaving the Dining Room last night, I made sure to tell our waiter, “BigD”, that it was my boyfriend’s birthday today. I wanted make sure that it was a special evening for him. While sitting under the stars, I jokingly said that they would be serving filet mignon for his birthday dinner. Imagine our surprise when filet mignon was the steak special tonight!
The appetizers sounded so delicious that I ended up ordering three and split two of them with him. For appetizers, I chose the chilled asparagus and potato soup, beefsteak tomatoes and mozzarella, and oysters rockefeller. All of them were absolutely delicious! For dinner, I ordered the red snapper special but thought the sauce took away from the dish. We ended up ordering two desserts (apple pie a la mode and chocolate raspberry cake), which melted in your mouth. After dinner, the waiters came over to the table and sang the birthday song to my boyfriend!
After dinner, we decided to check out the evening show in the Encore Theatre. “Dancin’ in the Streets” is an award winning, variety style show with a whole lot of singing and dancing. It was definitely one of the better shows I have seen. While at the show, my boyfriend and I ordered some drinks to enjoy as we sat there. The other day I saw someone walking around with at “disco ball drink” and was told I could only get it from the Encore Theatre. The “disco ball drink” is exactly what I ordered without even knowing what was in it. I just wanted the disco ball! It wasn’t until the server came back that we asked what was in it. The “disco ball drink” is called Rum Punch Fever and has three shots of rum in it! I don’t normally like rum drinks because I just don’t like the flavor. This drink was delicious because I couldn’t taste the rum!
Once the show was over, my boyfriend and I decided to wander around the ship some more. We liked finding new things and seeing what the other guests were up to. First, we went to the casino to see if anything exciting was going on there. Nothing. After a few spins at the Roulette table for him and a few pennies in the slot machines, we decided to move on. While in the casino, we discovered that I could only have my “disco ball drink” refilled in either the Encore Theatre or the Caliente Dance Club. The Theatre was closed so we checked out the Dance Club. Never in a million years did I expect us to hang out there for as long as we did. We ended up dancing and people watching until 3:00 in the morning! It was such a wonderful way to end the day! My boyfriend had an absolutely amazing on his birthday!
After we were done dancing and people watching, we realized that we were ridiculously hungry. I think it was because we actually had a pretty light dinner considering we were on a cruise. We grabbed some pizza from the 24 hour Pizzeria and went back to our room. We quickly passed out from exhaustion!
