Day 5 of Cruise (11/30/2011): Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan, Honduras
Despite staying up last night enjoying the Caliente Dance Club, we still managed to wake up around 7:30 this morning. I am not going to stay that we felt rejuvenated or ready to take on the day but we did have a great night.
When I woke up this morning, I was not really surprised to find a birthday card under our stateroom door similar to the one for my boyfriend’s birthday yesterday. We were a little slow moving this morning but eventually we got ready for breakfast and another adventure. Since we were both wearing out swim suits (yes I actually found one), we opted to grab breakfast from the buffet on the Lido Deck. I had a half of a grapefruit, a bagel with sugar-free raspberry jam and peanut butter, and non-fat raspberry yogurt.
After breakfast, we headed back to our stateroom to finish getting ready. Since today is my birthday, my boyfriend insisted that we do whatever I wanted to do today. Sitting on the beach all day was my choice. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t looking too good while we were eating breakfast. Around 10 AM, we took the elevator down to Deck 0 and got off the boat.
When we got off of the boat, we saw the strangest thing ever. No I didn’t find another Starbucks like I did in Cozumel although that would have been awesome. Instead, we saw a ski lift just like the ones in Colorado that take you to the top of the mountain. My boyfriend started looking for the snow and checking to see if there were skis available to rent. Alas, there was no snow. This ski lift actually took us from the port terminal down to the beach! The views from the chairs were breathtaking.
As soon as we got off of the chair, we were on the beach literally. The beach was lined with rows and rows of beach chairs so it was easy for us to find 4 in a row. The boys went to check out the water while us girls laid out on the chairs trying to get whatever sun was available. Despite it being overcast, it was a beautiful morning. Right around noon, the rain clouds started to form and it started to drizzle. We packed up our bags and decided to go back to the boat for lunch.
The buffet on the Lido Deck was pretty busy so we decided to go in search of the Pasta Bar. The Pasta Bar was as close to a sit down meal as you can get without eating in one of the main dining rooms. We got to choose exactly what we wanted on our pasta and turned it in to the chefs. After that, a waiter brought our food over to our table. The portions weren’t huge (which was fine with me) but food was really yummy. I had linguini pasta with alfredo sauce, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, and arugula.
When we finished lunch, we decided to go back out to the beach because the weather was finally better and the sun was out! We also noticed that there was an area with free wireless. After everyone else grabbed their cell phones (I was actually ok with being unplugged), we got back off the boat and took the ski lift back down to the beach. After checking his email, my boyfriend decided to go back in the water and I wandered around taking pictures.
We made it back to the boat just before 5:30. We were cutting our time on the beach a little close but it was worth every minute. When we got back to the room, I was exhausted and didn’t really have the energy to go for a run. I was a little disappointed but my birthday so far was a fantastic one. While I started getting ready for dinner, my boyfriend went to the Spa. I think he spent more time there this week than I did.
At 8:15, we found ourselves in the Scarlet Dining Room for dinner. Tonight’s dinner was another delicious experience. For my starter, I chose the smoked duck mostly because I have never had duck before and it sounded good. I am glad I chose it because the flavor was amazing and it almost melted in my mouth. I went with the vegetarian option for dinner, which was black bean enchiladas. The sauce was absolutely perfect for this dish and it wasn’t drowned in cheese so the flavor of the filling was very prominent. The dessert course was definitely the best course and I wish I had saved more room for it. My boyfriend and I chose to split the bitter and blanc, which was a dark and white chocolate bread pudding with a warm vanilla cream sauce. While we sitting at the table enjoying our dessert and coffee, Big D brought over a piece of the diet coconut cake with a birthday candle in it. He also had some of the other waiters come over to the table and sing the birthday song to me. I almost thought he had forgotten because we were sitting there quite some time before it happened.
After dinner, we decided to check out the Carnival Colors Fun Hop to see what that was all about. It didn’t really excite us so we ended up going to the Lido Deck to watch the live music and laser show. Missing the “teacup” chairs, my boyfriend and I decided to go sit in one. We went up to the Serenity Retreat to watch the stars while we listened to the music. It was so windy up there that we only stayed up there for about 30 minutes. We decided to go back to the stateroom to change into some warmer clothes and grab my “disco” ball.
With “disco” ball in hand, we headed down to the Piano Bar on the Promenade Deck (5) to see if the Singles Party was still going on. The party seemed to have turned into a karaoke party instead, which was not very exciting at all. The bartender was nice enough to refill my “disco” ball, which is only supposed to be done in either the Dance Club or the Encore Theatre. Milan the bartender from Croatia makes a very strong delicious drink!
Around 12:30, the Dance Club finally opened so we decided to check it out. We sat there just watching the other people out on the dance floor. We didn’t stay as long as we did last night but we still had a good time. When we got back to the room, it didn’t take long for us to fall asleep.
