Day 7 of Cruise (12/2/2011): Fun Day at Sea
Last night, we set the alarm for 7 AM with the hopes of getting a “teacup” chair for the day. We haven’t had much time to sun bathe so that’s what we wanted to do today.
When went off, my boyfriend went out to the Serenity Retreat with towels in hand and I started changing into my swim suit. He came back a few minutes later and said he had a “teacup” chair but the weather was absolutely horrible for sun bathing. The sun wasn’t out and it was so windy that he was actually cold! We decided that the weather would not deter us from enjoying the fresh air. He threw on sneakers and sweat pants and I threw on my yoga pants and sweater. Then we went outside to our “teacup” chair.
After a few minutes of sitting there, I decided that I was hungry and we decided to take turnaround going down to the buffet on the Lido Deck.
For breakfast, I grabbed a whole bunch of things. Some of them have been my staples over the last few days and the rest were things I wanted to try before the end of the cruise.
I grabbed a half of a red grapefruit and two pieces of a Belgian waffle. I don’t really like the sweetness of syrup so I topped my waffles with sugar free raspberry jelly.
I also grabbed two pieces of egg quesadillas, two muffins and non fat raspberry yogurt. I didn’t end up eating the muffins though. I thought they were more of those delicious chocolate chip coffee muffins from yesterday’s breakfast but they weren’t. The muffins were actually raison bran muffins, which I don’t really like.
It was so windy this morning the crew had blocked off several doors that lead to and from the interior of the ship. My trip to and from the buffet was very round about and actually took me past the bar on Serenity Retreat. When I passed by it coming back from the buffet, I noticed that they were offering morning drink specials. Now normally, my boyfriend and I are not morning drinkers but a Mimosa sounded really good to me and a Bloody Mary sounded really good to him.
While we were eating breakfast and enjoying our drinks, the sun finally came out. The best part was that the sun stayed out for the rest of the morning too. Around 11:30, we noticed rain clouds forming on the horizon so we decided that we would pack up when the rain started. We had already started talking about what we were going to grab for lunch and we would probably have to leave our “teacup” chair anyway.
After dinner last night, our waiter, Big D, told us about the chocolate buffet that was going on during today’s lunch. I am a chocolate lover so there was no way I was going to miss it! They were also supposed to be doing a BBQ in the Lanai on the Promenade Deck (5). At noon, the rain came so we vacated out chair and went in search of lunch. Since it was raining, we decided to forget about the BBQ and just stick to the chocolate buffet and the regular lunch buffet.
Since I loaded my plate with chocolaty goodness, I decided I should probably also eat something that was somewhat healthy. My sandwich from the Deli was so delicious that other day that I went back for one today. I grabbed the arugula, mozzarella, and roasted red pepper sandwich for the healthy part of my lunch.
While I was in line for my sandwich, I decided to grab one for my boyfriend too. He had been talking about trying the corned beef on rye sandwich for most of the week so I figured I would grab it while he found a table for us to sit at.
The chocolate buffet (called the Chocolate Extravaganza) was filled with all kinds of deliciousness. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try everything even though I wanted to.
We (yes I shared with my boyfriend) did try plenty though. When I went through the line (the first time), I grabbed the chocolate pound cake, chocolate chip madeleines, almond biscotti and espresso palmiers. We didn’t really like the pound cake (who puts dried fruit in pound cake) but everything else was amazing.
After lunch, we decided to wander around the ship. The Fun Shops were having crazy sales so we figured it couldn’t hurt to check them out. We didn’t really find anything we wanted so we wandered over to look at the formal pictures we took after the first Elegant Dinner. We could only find one set of pictures even though we took three sets. I liked a few of them but my boyfriend didn’t like the way his hair looked so we didn’t purchase any of them.
At 2:30, we decided to check out the Newlywed Game in the Encore Theatre. We were honestly curious to see how we would do if we were the ones playing. Even though we have been together for more than two and a half years, we really didn’t well at the game. I guess we are going to have to work on that.
Once the game was over, the Spa started calling our names. Since it was the last chance we would have to utilize it, we decided to take full advantage. After the some time in the whirlpool, we tried out the steam rooms before going into the dry heat rooms. We spent over an hour in the Spa area before we decided to back to our stateroom and start packing.
The worst part of the entire cruise was packing our bags tonight. We had such a fabulous time that we didn’t want it to end. After we got back from the Spa, we took turns getting ready for dinner and packing our bags. Our goal was to have everything ready before dinner so we could leave our checked bags in the hallway for the steward to pick up.
We ended up getting everything done with plenty of time to spare before our 8:15 dinner time. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to go for a run but I did manage to run over 10 miles this week. The dinner menu tonight was probably one of the best ones all week. For my starters, I chose the fatoush salad and the grilled portabella mushrooms. I went with the vegetarian option for dinner, which was eggplant and zucchini parmagiana. The flavor of this dish was amazing! Dessert was awesome as well. Tonight I had the cappuccino ice cream pie and my boyfriend had the Gran Marnier orange soufflé.
After dinner, we went to the late night comedy shows. Our bags were packed and we wanted to see the comedians one more time. We grabbed some coffee from the Plaza Café so that we would be able to stay awake. After both the 11:00 and midnight show, we went back to stateroom and fell asleep almost immediately.
