Alternative Title: I really want a shower!
So far, my long weekend vacation has been jam packed and my boyfriend and I haven’t even checked into the hotel yet. Before noon, I participated in the Meet Up & Eat Up event, picked up my race packet, and wandered around the Health & Fitness Expo with my boyfriend.
After the morning’s events, we decided to try and check into the hotel. I really wanted to take a shower and grab some lunch. I was also hoping to grab a quick nap before watching the baseball game tonight. When I completed the online check-in, I indicated that we would be arriving around noon hoping that we would be able to get into the room before 4 pm. Lady Luck was not on my side! When we got to the hotel, I went to the front desk only to find out that the computers weren’t working. The cast member at the front desk didn’t even know when they would be back up and running.
I walked back out to the car with my head hung low and a phone number to call later to inquire about the computer status. I JUST WANTED TO TAKE A SHOWER PEOPLE! My boyfriend quickly suggested that we go grab some lunch while we waited. He knows me so well. The thought of food brightened my day and my mood quickly changed.
We headed over to Fuddrucker’s, which is a burger joint just off the Disney property. My boyfriend loves this place and any time we are in Orlando it is a must for us to eat here. I was super excited about the fact that Fuddrucker’s has a veggie burger. I didn’t want my stomach to go haywire on me in the next 24 hours so I ordered one with grilled onions, balsamic portabellas and Swiss cheese. I also ordered a side salad with oil and vinegar.
I felt SO much better after eating something. I know my boyfriend did to until he realized that yet again he ate too much. There are a few places that he always eats too much and this just happens to be one of them. We hung around the restaurant until around 2:30 when my boyfriend called the phone number I was given. He was ready to get into the room almost as much as I was. We were in luck! The computers were back online and our room was ready for us to occupy!
When I decided that I was going to run Disney’s Wine and Dine Half Marathon, I made sure to choose a hotel that would provide us (me specifically) the best possible experience on race day. I chose Disney’s BroadWalk because it was a host resort (transportation to the starting line) and it was walking distance from EPCOT (walk home or wait in line for a bus). After we checked in, unloaded the car and made it up to the room, I immediately hopped in the shower. WHAT A RELIEF!
After we got settled in our room and my need for a shower was satisfied, we got ready for dinner. When we checked in, the bell hop informed us that our rooms do not get TBS or TNT on the television. Luckily, the ESPN Club does! We changed for dinner sporting our Tampa Bay Rays gear and headed down to the sports bar. We both love baseball and our favorite team made it to the playoffs!
We found a spot at the bar with a perfect view of the big screen! We each ordered a beer. He got a Blue Moon and I got a Mich Ultra. I know I know. Drinking a beer the night before a half marathon is probably not the smartest idea but I was at a sports bar watching baseball. It seemed like the appropriate thing to do. 🙂 Besides I enjoyed getting strange looks from the people around me when they heard I was running the race the next day. If the race was a morning one, there would be no way in hell that I would consider drinking a beer the night before.
We had a great time hanging out at the ESPN Club watching our baseball team win. (Unfortunately, they didn’t make it to the second round. Maybe next year.) Because ate such a late lunch, we weren’t really hungry until the end of the game. We ordered our dinner to go and headed back to the room. For dinner, I had the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich with the Cucumber Salad. I only ate half of my sandwich and saved the other half for tomorrow’s lunch.
We tried to stay up because we knew the tomorrow was going to be a really long day. Unfortunately, they didn’t happen. I think I crashed about 10 and my boyfriend followed shortly.
