After the Meet Up and Eat Up event was over, Bob gathered us together and told us that we had two options. We could either go check out the Expo inside the Jostens Center or we could go get our race packets from the HP Field House. Since I knew my boyfriend was on his way, I decided to go get my race packet. This option was definitely the most appealing because we actually got to skip the line (which was wrapped around the building) and get out packets first.
Side Note to the Guy who gave me the stink eye as I entered the building: I am really sorry that I skipped the line. I know that you got there ridiculously early to be the first person in line. Trust me when I say that I know because I watched you walk determinedly towards the building while I was waiting at the globe in front of the WWOS. I am very sorry.
Being the VIPs that we were (Bob’s phrase, not mine), it was awesome getting to enjoy the calm before the storm of the packet pick up area. I even spotted some character displays at the back of the room featuring my favorite characters. I <3 Dopey!
After picking up my packet, I headed back over to the Expo to pick up my goody bag and shirt. I accidentally ordered the wrong size shirt so I won’t be able to wear it during any future runs but I will try and wear it as much as possible.
While I was picking up my goody bag, my boyfriend texted me saying that he was almost there. I quickly changed out of my running clothes and into some normal clothes. I knew I wasn’t going to get a shower right away so I came prepared with baby wipes and deodorant. I met my boyfriend in the parking lot and dropped off most of my stuff so that I wouldn’t be weighed down while we wandered around the Expo. My boyfriend is the man in the grey shirt. He hasn’t agreed to put his face on here yet but he didn’t mind this one.
After we walked back to the Expo, we headed over to the clubhouse to get my boyfriend’s gift card. Besides giving the runners a $10 gift card, they also gave one to the people attending the Finish Line Party as spectators, which is exactly what my boyfriend was doing. Then it was time to wander through the exhibits and check out all of the merchandise.
I have never actually been to a race expo so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect and neither was my boyfriend. We wandered around and checked out each booth. We decided not to buy anything until after we looked at everything. We didn’t want to have any buyer’s remorse. One of the booths was the runDisney booth, which was showing all of the medals for all of the big races that are put on throughout the year. I decided that I really wanted the special 15th anniversary Donald Duck medal for the WDW Half Marathon in January.
We stopped at all of the headphones booths (there were three) because my boyfriend loves those types of things and we were looking for a good pair of headphones for us to work out with. My current pair has been on the fritz ever since they decided to take a bath in the water bowl.
We also stopped at the Running Skirts booth. I finally got to meet Heather from Running With Sass. I am an avid reader of her blog and it was really nice to put a face with the blog. She gave me some great advice about running my first half marathon. She seemed pretty busy so I didn’t ask for a picture.
Another booth we checked out was the Fit2Run booth. They actually had several booths but the one we stopped at had the finger toe socks as I call them. My boyfriend has been dying to try a pair of these socks so he got a pair of them. As soon as we got to the hotel room later, he put them on and the only thing he said was, “Weird!” (I couldn’t resist putting this picture up! )
There were a ton of booths and most of them were having specials, giveaways, or samples to try. There were also a bunch of really cool running clothes brands there with shirts covered with inspirational sayings. I loved this shirt but didn’t get it.
Before we left the Expo, we stopped in at the official race merchandise booth. I got two shirts, a magnet and two pint glasses. I am total sucker when it comes to having official race gear.
What are your must dos at race expos?
