Ok so technically Fall doesn’t officially begin until September 23 this year but to me the Fall season starts when the Pumpkin Spice Latte is officially offered at Starbucks. Coffee is one of my absolute guilty pleasures and Starbucks is my number one brand of choice. Normally, I don’t splurge on drinks that are full of sugar or high in fat content because that doesn’t really follow the whole healthy eating thing. The Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) is one of vices of though besides Oreos (which I have successfully avoided thus far). Because I am trying to be healthier this year, I have decided to limit my PSL intake to once a week. In honor of the start of Fall according to Starbucks, I had my PSL for the week today. More on that later though!
Even with all of my insane cleaning and organization yesterday, I never managed to make it to the grocery store. That meant that I was out of yogurt! I know. It is absolutely shocking that I would be out of yogurt. That was the exact reaction of my boyfriend too. I decided to have oatmeal for breakfast. I mixed a oatmeal, water, cinnamon and a packet of Splenda® to make my delicious breakfast.
Less than two hours after my breakfast, I was hungry again. I think I need to do some tinkering on this recipe before I post officially post it to my blog. I want the flavor to be perfect and I want it to be satisfying for several hours. Luckily for me (and you), the oatmeal season has commenced and I will have plenty of time to tinker with it. I held off on eating my lunch though because I was afraid that there would be a downward slide and my eating schedule would be thrown off. Yes I have an eating schedule. For lunch, I had my boyfriend’s leftovers from our dinner out on Sunday. He got the Spicy Korean with Chicken and brown rice. He also gets it extra spicy. My mouth was on fire after eating it for lunch but it was delicious nonetheless.
While I was making my lunch, I noticed that my ankle/foot was feeling worse than how it started off this morning. At that point, I decided that my body needed at least another day to heal and cancelled my run for the day. I was not happy about that but I also know that I could actually hurt myself even worse and not be able to run in my upcoming half marathon. That would absolutely horrible. I have worked so hard training for this race and not being able to run it would be devastating to say the least. I still managed to walk across the street (very slowly) and enjoy my first PSL of the season!
It was just as I remembered from last year! Pumpkin pie in a cup with caffeine. Now this beverage is not exactly the healthiest but I changed it up in order to have some healthy value to it. Instead of the 2% milk that comes standard in all of Starbucks’s beverages, I substituted non fat milk. I also did not get the whipped cream on top. I actually prefer milk foam to whipped cream. Does that make me weird?
When I got home from work, I decided to ice my ankle. Now just to be clear, my ankle is not swollen, bruised or puffy in any way, shape or form. My ankle does not hurt when I put pressure on it or while standing on it. It only starts hurting after I have been walking on it for a few minutes. I have also decided that if it persists I will go see a doctor. My biggest fear is that he/she will tell me I can’t run on October 1st. I might just cry in front of the doctor if that happens. For now, I will continue to ice it and rest it as much as possible. A girl still needs her afternoon coffee fix.
