Wednesday – Practice Demonstrations (35 minutes)
Once a month, there is a birthday cake in the office to celebrate that month’s birthdays. The cake that they get is absolutely delicious and is from a local bakery. This celebration usually takes place at the end of the month and today was that day. I absolutely love cake especially chocolate cake! Unfortunately, cake is not exactly the healthiest choice for an afternoon snack. Since starting my healthy living/weight loss journey, I have seen eight office birthday cakes come and go without enjoying a single bite. When I first started this journey, I chose to walk across the street and get a Soy Latte because it satisfied my sweet tooth and was a lot better for me than a giant piece of cake. Lately, I haven’t felt the desire to leave the office when temptation appears. I am able to stay at my desk without the urge to eat a piece of birthday cake. This is a small victory that reassures me that I am on the right path towards achieving my ultimate goal.
I was truly exhausted after my 6 mile run last night so I didn’t attempt to wake up early enough to get my workout in before work. I inadvertently slept in later than I wanted but I still made it to work (pretty close to) on time. I enjoyed a delicious breakfast of non fat raspberry flavored Greek yogurt with chocolate delight granola.
I spent the morning getting the redesign presentable so that it could be discussed by the project managers. While they were discussing it, I went to lunch with some of my coworkers to a sports bar type place called Brickhouse Tap and Tavern. I was a little skeptical about what I could eat there because most sports bar specialize in fried foods. I thought I did really well with my choice. I had the Blackened Mahi Sandwich with steamed broccoli. I also decided to not eat the bread and the remoulade sauce that came with the sandwich. After lunch, I was informed about how the discussions of the redesign went. I was a little frustrated with the decision mostly because after all of my hard work the last few days to do a complete redesign the project mangers decided that they wanted to stick with the original plan. Grr! Instead of eating the delicious birthday cake that I mentioned above, I enjoyed roasted almonds for my afternoon snack. I really love the Dark Chocolate Cocoa Roasted Almonds from Emerald Nuts. I also walked across the street and grabbed my afternoon coffee.
After work, I sat down and developed another kettlebell workout. (I am thinking about starting an article called Workout Wednesdays, where I post my own workouts including my kettlebell routines and running workouts. Any thoughts?) Today’s workout was supposed to focus on practicing the exercises from the Volume 2 DVD. The workout I came up with utilized both repetitions and intervals. I also incorporated some of the exercises from the Volume 1 DVD. Oh boy did I create a good workout. My arms are still sore as I am typing this post up!
While I was working out, my sister was making dinner. Tonight she made “Stuffing” Pie, which literally reminds me of Thanksgiving dinner. She uses ground turkey, spinach, mushrooms and egg beaters to make a quiche that tastes like all of the essentials of a good Thanksgiving dinner. This recipe she has posted on her blog at Beating Lean and Greens.
